My Experience During A visit To Our Naija Prison

Its quite a bad site when you visit our Nigeria prisons. Now come to think of it, we all know that no one is perfect but i dont really understand why those that finally find themselves in the Nigeria prisons are treated as though they have something to do with the devil personally. The annoying thing there for me is that even those that seem to be innocent still undergo the same treatment.
During one of my visitations to the Nigeria Prison in one of the states, i almost shaded tears. it an experience that i wouldnt forget in a hurry.
On that faithful day when i and my group got to the prison, we met the officer in-charge for that day and told him of our mission and showed me all we brought including food, as usual we where asked to taste the food and some other stuff. after the whole exercise, we signed and then went to see the prisoners. As we got into the cell areas first, the stench was so bad that i didnt even know when i closed my nostrils. I felt bad because i saw some little boys there, elderly men too who looked as if the will die soon. without wasting time, we prayed for them, although some where just "i wouldnt know what to call them" because the where so stubborn that the even told us not to near the cell gate but the policeman with us threatened to deal with him if he messes up. After the prayers, we had little conversations and i discovered that some had even been forgotten there and some where not even  guilty of the crime they where accused of and just because the had no one to run to, the had to be chased into the cell.
And the worst of it all was that those soft ones where even being more maltreated in the cells by the cell president, even to the extent of having to fan the cell president as he sleeps all through the night.

Let me not bore you with all the details, after seeing the  guys, we went to the female section, i was told that i couldnt enter there that day, but as the leader of the group, i was allowed to go in with the ladies. when we got there things i saw got my eyes so full that i had to tell my colleagues that i need to go wait for them outside, but the thing there was that i got so pressed that i re
ally needed to use the toilet immediately. To be honest, i felt that i would rather mess myself up that go to one of the toilets there. But you know now that i couldnt just mess my self up in public. The police guy showed me one of the toilets to use and when i got in there, the had no water although the toilet was manageable in a way because i guess it was the best that the had and to crown it all there was no tissue paper. I had to rush in, i didnt mind all the fault i saw and all and i just pulled off my trousers and off all the stuff came out and i got myself a little. I couldnt spend much time there so i had to use my boxer shorts to wipe my ass*eyesclosed*. But guess what, when i stepped out. one of the prisoners begged me for that same boxer shorts, i was like relax let me go get you another one, he insisted that i give him that particular one, i told him it was already messed and he said, he will was it and use. this i could just help but just give it to him. Then i knew that it was really bad in there. Please the Nigerian Government should do something about our Naija cells and prisons, i dont know if they left it in that condition so that people will be scared and stop committing crime, but its not helping because both the innocent and the guilty go through same in there.
